OPPOSITION leader Tony Abott has guaranteed there will be no change to the GST if he is elected Prime Minister.

Speaking at a press conference in Sydney, Mr Abbott was challenged to put  the issue to rest once and for all.

"Let me be as categoric as I can," Mr Abbott said.

"The GST won't change, full stop, end of story.

"And again, this is  just a pathetic scare by a Labor party which has no record to defend and nothing to say about our future."

However, Mr Abbott refused to remove the GST from a review of all taxes, labelling suggestions he should do so as a game.

"We all know this is a desperate Labor party running around trying to scare the bejesus out of people," Mr Abbott said.

He again reiterated the GST could not change unless all of the states agreed, including the Labor states.
