SONGVERSATION is the name of the show that India Aire is bringing to Australia this year.

For her second time at Bluesfest, India has promised a performance in line with her fifth album.

"Songversation is secondarily the name of the album. First, it's the moniker of my performance style. So at Bluesfest I will be doing 'a songersation.' You will have to come and see what it is."

The common thread though her style in this show is "that you hear a person who is singing about her real life experiences.

"When I am on stage I let a lot of myself be seen and accpet myself for who I am.

"If I do that, then I have accomplished what I like most about my (music) heroes," she said.

One of the songs that standout in reviews of Songversations is I Am Light. We asked India Arie for the story behind that song.

"It's my song and it's my favorite song of this album," she said.

"It's so personal and yet so generic. Everyone can relate. It's generic but not stereotypical. Generic can mean relating to the general person.

"It took me so many years to grow into a person who would be able to tell that depth of truth.

"As a songwriter and a public person, sometimes we shy away from being to esoteric or too spiritual. We don't want to be perceived as 'preachy.'

"My intention is to share my experience. With I Am Lightthere are elements of spirituality and it's very personal."

Born India Arie Simpson, the American singer-songwriter, musician, and record producer has sold more than 10 million records worldwide.

She has won four Grammy Awards, including Best R&B Album.
