Police wage war on drugs at Stereosonic

A "HIGH-visibility police operation" with 200 officers including drug-detection dogs and riot squad members greeted music fans on the final day of the Stereosonic music festival at the Sydney Showgrounds.

The two-day police operation - matching the two days of the festival - had police search 1200 revellers in total, laying 227 charges for mostly drug-related offences.

NSW Police Superintendent David Eardley congratulated most festival-goers on their behaviour, but was disappointed at the actions of some at the event.

"While most revellers enjoyed the festival safely, the number of people caught with illegal drugs or alcohol was definitely of concern," he said.

Stereosonic organisers failed to respond to numerous requests for comment.
