COFFS Coast-raised and celebrated crime author Michael Robotham will be presenting workshops at the Bellingen Readers and Writers’ Festival.

Check out the Criminal Thoughts, Criminal Minds session featuring Michael along with Barry Maitland and Wendy James on Saturday April 9, 10.45 to 11.45am.

Michael will delve into the secrets of the dark art – whodunnit, how they do it and why crime books are so popular. In a separate session, from 3.15pm to 4.15pm on Sunday, April 10, called Blood and Psychology, Means and Motive, he will provide forensic insight to a world where nothing is ever as it seems.

Michael said he lived in Coffs Harbour for six years and went to high school in the region.

He said writing is a solitary profession and writers’ festivals allow for a rare interaction between the author and reader.

“For most of the year I lock myself away in my basement office, wrestling with characters who won’t behave and words that won’t get in line. Writers’ festivals are a completely different experience. I get instant feedback. I can sense the hush and hear the collective intake of breath, or hear the laughter.”
