Warburton out of final test after hamstring tear

BRITISH and Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton will miss Saturday night's series-deciding third Test against the Wallabies in Sydney after scans revealed a "significant" tear in his left hamstring.

The openside flanker, arguably best on ground in the second Test in Melbourne last Saturday night before suffering the injury in the 68th minute, was shattered after being given the news yesterday.

"It is incredibly disappointing to be ruled out of the tour through injury as we head to Sydney for the deciding match," he said.

"I wish the team all the best and hope I can play some part in the build up this week. I am confident that the boys can finish the job off and secure the series win."

In Warburton's absence, Irishman Brian O'Driscoll is likely to captain the side in what would be his ninth and final Lions Test.

Either Ireland's Sean O'Brien or fellow Welshman Justin Tipuric are likely to replace Warburton in the starting XV.
