UQ urges new strategy against antibiotic resistance

A MULTI-PRONGED approach is essential for fighting antibiotic resistance; research from the University of Queensland has shown.

The new research showed apart from limiting antibiotic use, choosing the best antibiotic for the job, screening at-risk patients and improving infection controls were needed.

The research centred on drug-resistant forms of bacteria including E. coli and how much bacteria was becoming more resistant to antibiotics.

It found those at most risk from such bacteria included recent travellers returning from the Asia-Pacific.
