Hooper suffers shock KO loss after just 21 seconds

DAMIEN Hooper's dream of fighting overseas may have to be put on ice after the Dalby boxer was sensationally knocked out for the first time as a professional in Brisbane on Saturday night.

Perth's Rob Powdrill caused a huge upset by dropping the highly-rated Hooper inside 21 seconds to become the new WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council light heavyweight champion.

It was supposed to be the night for Hooper to launch his international career in front of UK promoter Ricky Hatton but it was Powdrill who brought the fireworks.

The kick-boxing and Muay Thai specialist was having just his fifth pro boxing fight as a late replacement after Hooper's original opponent had been unable to obtain a visa.

But Powdrill never looked out of place as he floored Hooper with his first right hand just 11 seconds into the bout before landing a massive overhand right to Hooper's temple which knocked the London Olympian out cold.

The loss was Hooper's first in 10 pro fights, with the stunned fighter admitting afterwards that he will take some time off before planning his next move.
