Rudd promises extra $30m to ease Geelong after Ford closure

JUST weeks from an election, the Federal Government has promised an extra $30 million to Geelong and north Melbourne to help recover from the 2016 Ford closure.

The funds were announced as part of a $49 million package from the Rudd and Victoria Governments and Ford Australia.

Each totalling $24.5 million, two funds were set up to help local businesses adjust as the Ford plant closes in three years.

Innovation Minister Kim Carr said the money would help create new jobs in the area, and help businesses to diversify and expand.
