Regional NSW causes biggest Nationals win in a decade

REGIONAL areas of New South Wales played a key role in what was The Nationals biggest electoral success in more than a decade.

Key to the landmark results for the party was the return of two key NSW seats to Nationals hands and a victory over Labor incumbent Janelle Saffin in the seat of Page.

New Nationals MPs to join the team in Canberra will be Kevin Hogan, replacing Ms Saffin; David Gillespie, who won Lyne after independent Rob Oakeshott resigned earlier this year; and Keith Pitt, succeeding Paul Neville in Hinkler.

The Nationals have also secured the return of the outspoken Barnaby Joyce, who successfully made the move from the Queensland Senate to represent New England in the lower house.
