Police hunt man who used a syringe to hold up pregnant woman

POLICE are hunting a man who held up a heavily pregnant woman with a syringe during a milk bar robbery in Sutherland, south of Sydney.

According to police, the 34-year-old woman was working alone on Saturday afternoon when the man appeared and demanded cash.

The woman struggled with the man over the cash register before noticing he was holding something in one of his hands.

As he fled, the man fell to the ground before picking himself up and climbing into a white hatchback.

Investigators retrieved the syringe which contained "a red substance".

The woman was taken to hospital for minor cuts but was soon released.

As of Sunday afternoon, police were still chasing information about the man, described as 183cm tall, solid build, long-sleeved yellow and purple shirt, and dark long pants.

He was wearing a towel or scarf over his head during the attack.
