Irish police hit with petrol bombs after blocking march

POLICE have been the target of petrol bombs, stones, bottles and fireworks after a Protestant group was blocked from marching in Northern Ireland.

The attacks on Saturday were the second night in a row that tensions had flared after police banned a march planned by the Orange Order.

The night before, 32 police officers and a member of Parliament were injured.

Up to 400 police were dispatched to Northern Ireland on Saturday to reinforce those standing against the disturbance.

BBC News reported 22 people had been arrested.
