Coal mine shut down after female miner killed

A HUNTER Valley coal mine was shut down after a female worker was killed in an on-site accident on Sunday.

The ABC reported a female trainee was killed after her car was run over by a fully laden coal truck at Glencore's Ravensworth mine near Singleton.

Operations at the mine were shut down immediately on Sunday while police and state government authorities investigate the accident.

A statement from Glencore reportedly said the company's top concern was the safety and welfare of all employees and the company was providing "all possible support" to the families of those involved.

It is understood the driver of the coal truck was taken to hospital suffering shock after the accident.
