$6 million in pharmacy funds miss their mark

ALMOST $6 million given to the nation's pharmacy industry for "professional development" was used to fund an unapproved communications strategy.

The shock finding was part of an audit, released this week, of the Federal Government's $15 billion deal with the Pharmacy Guild to dispense subsidised medicines. That audit also found shortcomings in the Department of Health's record-keeping of arrangements under the deal.

In its official response to the audit, the department acknowledged there was further "scope" to improve its administration of the deal.
