BLAME the release of the movie 50 Shades of Grey but business is booming at one of the Northern Rivers most popular adult shops.

"Since the book came out we have had a rise in sales," Roz Brown, of Krystal Adult World at Byron Bay, said.

"But now, with the movie, there has been a lot of interest in the bondage side of things."

She said Japanese silk rope, orgasm balls and toy handcuffs were some of the most popular items.

"The balls are good for pelvic floor muscles so we get plenty of gym junkies buying them too," she said.

Massage oils were another popular item.

"Mostly the bondage toys are being bought by couples, of all ages," said Mrs Brown.

"That is the way the industry is going now.

"We also get people in here who have sexual issues and have been recommended products by their GP."

Mrs Brown said Christmas was always a busy time, but Valentines Day had also been busy.

"Men buy lingerie for their partners and our police, nurse and Catwoman outfits are popular, as are sexy nighties," she said.
