Seven-week-old baby boy allegedly tortured by father

UPDATE:

IT'S understood the young man police charged yesterday over the alleged torture and assault of a seven-week-old baby was the boy's father.

Gladstone police said the baby first presented to Biloela Hospital in May with swelling to one of his legs.

Due to the initial injury staff conducted further X-rays and called in medical specialists and child protection services.

Police will allege that in the seven weeks the baby had been alive for medical evidence suggested a history of injuries, including a fractured skull, broken forearm, ribs and thigh bone.

Detective Sergeant Chris Lindsay from Gladstone CIB said the injuries were consistent with violent acts.

The man was given bail and will appear in Biloela magistrates court July 20.   

 

EARLIER:

A 22 year old man has been charged over the alleged assault and torture or a seven-week-old baby boy.

Detectives from the Gladstone Child Protection and Investigation Unit have charged the man today.

Police commenced investigations after the baby was presented to the Biloela Hospital on May 24 suffering from a number of injuries including several fractures to his body.

A 22-year-old Biloela man has been charged with six counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count each of torture and failing to provide the necessities. 

He is due to face Biloela Magistrates Court on July 20.

The baby has been released from hospital.
