$22 item behind Adele’s transformation

Adele has revealed it's not just her appearance she has overhauled recently - but her entire way of thinking.

The British singer has lost almost 45kg, showing off her stunning weight loss achievement in a series of Instagram snaps.

But the 32-year-old has just revealed she's been working on her mental health, crediting a new self-help book for her recent "joy, happiness and freedom".

And the book, titled Untamed, Stop Pleasing, Start Living by Glennon Doyle, can be picked up in Kmart and Big W stores and costs just $22.

"If you're ready - this book will shake your brain and make your soul scream," Adele wrote in a post to her 38.5 million followers.

"I never knew that I am solely responsible for my own joy, happiness and freedom!!

"Who knew our own liberation liberates those around us? Cause I didn't!! I thought we were meant to be stressed and dishevelled, confused and selfless like a Disney character!"

If you're not familiar with the book, you're not alone - it was only released in Australia in March by publisher Penguin, which was right at the height of coronavirus pandemonium and we've been distracted.

Written by a self-confessed "truth teller", the book is part inspiration and part memoir, with Doyle sharing a galvanising wake-up call she experienced to help others to stop striving to meet the expectations of the world.

According to reviews on Booktopia, it is designed to help women question who they were before "the world told you who to be", helping guide readers to dare to say "no" when they are expected to say "yes".

Despite being released in the middle of a global pandemic, Untamed has been in the NY Times Best Sellers list for weeks following rave reviews by well-known women.

Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat Pray Love described the book as "phenomenal" and Ekuzaverg Day, the writer behind How To Fail, labelled it "brilliant".

"I am so ready for myself after reading this book! It's as if I just flew into my body for the very first time. Whew!" Adele said.

"Anyone who has any kind of capacity to truly let go and give into yourself with any kind of desire to hold on for dear life - Do it. Read it. Live it. Practice it. We are a lot! But we are meant to be a lot."
While actor Reese Witherspoon said it was "packed with incredible insight about what it means to be a woman today".

However, not everyone has proved to be a fan of Doyle's third piece of writing, with some regular readers stating it was a "struggle" to read.

"My thoughts and feelings changed 'several' times - from positive to negative - back to positive- back to negative!!! By the end.... I was just glad to be DONE!" one person wrote on Good Reads.

"According to my kindle, I made it 71% of the way through this book before I called the time of death," another declared.

While a third wrote: "I was really disappointed by this book, especially after seeing such great reviews everywhere. The overview seemed promising, but I found so much of it repetitive."

Adele first surprised fans last year when she was spotted at an Oscars party looking visibly slimmer.

In January another snap of her emerged, this time on a beach in the Caribbean alongside singer Harry Styles in a spotty black dress.

At the time, the newly-divorced 31-year-old wrote: "I used to cry but now I sweat."

Her former personal trainer, Camilla Goodis - known as the Brazilian body wizard - later revealed the star previously "hated exercise".

But she was said to have embraced a Sirtfood Diet which involves activating specific proteins in the body called sirtuins by eating foods like apples, blueberries and kale, while cooking with the likes of turmeric and parsley.

Encouraging your body to produce sirtuins is supposedly a good thing, as it is believed that they protect cells in the body from dying when they are under stress.
