AS many as 15 people have been injured after a bus and garbage truck collided in Sydney's west.

The accident happened at about 9.40 this morning, on Windermere Road close to the Davis Road intersection in Wetherill Park.

Police have been told a garbage truck travelling on Davis Road and a bus with 20 passengers travelling on the Transitway collided. It sent the bus hurtling into a number of parked cars in a nearby car park.

The driver and three passengers were trapped in the accident. NSW Fire and Rescue had to cut out the door of the bus to free them.

Paramedics treated 15 people at the scene for various injuries including fractures and bruising. Six were eventually taken to hospital.

The driver of the garbage truck was uninjured. He was breath tested at the scene and returned a negative result.

Davis Road has been closed in both directions.
