More resignations likely: Keneally

NSW Premier Kristina Keneally says John Della Bosca's resignation is unlikely to be the last before the state election in March.

NSW premier Kristina Keneally has welcomed a $15.6b federal government pledge on hospital spending.

NSW Premier Kristina Keneally says John Della Bosca's resignation is unlikely to be the last before the state election in March, with MPs on both sides of politics now mulling over their political futures.

The former minister and ALP veteran announced on Thursday he was quitting the state's upper house to take up a new role in the disabilities sector.

Mr Della Bosca is the fourth Labor MP to resign from parliament this year, with the disgraced MPs Karyn Paluzzano and Ian Macdonald, and a disillusioned former juvenile justice minister Graham West, announcing their resignations before him.

Asked if she was worried that she would face more resignations before next year's poll, Ms Keneally said: "This happens before every election, and it happens on both sides of politics.

"People make decisions about whether or not to continue in their parliamentary career - it's not surprising," she said.

"I anticipate there will be more decisions on all sides of politics - people who choose to stand again, and people who choose to take a different path."
