Thanks to a donation of $5000, the Byron Bay Hospital Auxiliary will now be able to provide extra facilities and improve an outside area at the local hospital.

The cheque was presented last week to the auxiliary by organisers of the annual Australia Day paddle in Byron Bay.

The paddle raised $10,000, and the remaining $5000 will be donated to a number of charities and organisations.

They include:

Providing kitchen facilities at the new Drop In Centre in Fletcher Street, Byron Bay.

Improving access at the Katia Nursery for the Disabled at Sunrise Beach.

Providing boards and amenities for the Disabled Surfing Association.

Improving the first-aid room at the Byron Bay Surf Club.

Helping with running costs for the annual Ben King Memorial Byron Bay Easter Surf Classic run by the Byron Bay Boardriders.

One of the organisers of the paddle, Dan McCabe, thanked the ‘very generous’ sponsors and all the volunteers who contributed to such a great community day.

“Also, a big thank you to the Byron News for promoting and providing great coverage of the paddle,” Dan said.
