Hunt for old home movies

Greg Aitken is on the hunt for hidden home movie gems which he wants to include in a documentary on Byron Bay, focusing on the history of cinema in the town.

Looking for old Byron Bay movie footage . . . Greg Aitken and Byron Bay Film Festival director J’aimee Skippon-Volke at the Byron Bay Community Centre.

Greg Aitken is on the hunt for some hidden home movie gems which he wants to include in a documentary on Byron Bay, focusing on the history of cinema in the town.

The documentary will be screened at the opening and closing events of the Byron Bay Film Festival, of which he is executive producer.

To kick off on March 5, the festival will be held at the Byron Bay Community Centre, formerly the Byron Bay Literary Institute, which once doubled as the town’s cinema.

Greg has several local film makers working on the short documentary and while there has been no trouble locating historical photos of Byron Bay, finding moving footage has been a challenge.

He is looking for any pre-1980 super8 film or VHS tape featuring Byron Bay and he would also like to hear from anyone who was a projectionist at Byron Bay and also from people who were regulars at the movies at the Literary Institute who would be willing to share their memories.

Greg can be contacted on 66845308 or 0421984024, or be email at 100years@bbff.com.au
