IN a move that has shocked many, Southern Cross University will not be merging with Charles Sturt University.
The proposed 'Super Uni' plan was announced last December.
Co-director of the feasibility study and Southern Cross University Council secretary Malcolm Marshall said that students have been notified the venture will not go ahead.
“It won't affect the Coffs Harbour campus at all,” Mr Marshall said. “Or any of the other campuses.”
The University Council met on Friday to further discuss the feasibility study into a new national regional university. This followed a joint meeting of the two university councils on July 3.
The Southern Cross University Council has determined that on the basis of the needs analysis, completed by PhillipsKPA as the first stage of the study, the merger was not feasible.
Mr Marshall said a key reason behind the decision was the lack of a third partner in the venture.
However, he added the report had been extremely useful, providing a very clear indication of the critical role regional universities play.
