Chef’s new Byron book to help Uncle Project | Northern Rivers News | Local News in Northern Rivers

He’s been a chef for 22 years and the resident cook on two popular TV shows, but now Anthony Telford has turned his hand to writing books.

His latest venture is a black and white photographic design story book which he hopes will eventually raise $250,000 for the Byron Bay-based Uncle Project.

Titled ‘BYRON BAY: wiled time,’ the book will be self-published, but Anthony is hoping to get a grant of $35,000 from the Australia Council as well as local sponsorship to help him finance the project.

He expects the project will cost about $70,000.

“I am currently negotiating with the council for the grant, but need to show them that I have local sponsorship,” Anthony said.

“The grant is conditional on their being a community outcome and that is why I have selected the Uncle Project which is such a wonderful organisation.

“I have seven children, so I know how important it is to have support for young boys in the community who for whatever reason are unlucky to not have the love and guidance of a father.”

Having already written two cook books and a children’s book, Anthony is happy with his new project.

The book will be a photographic story of Byron Bay in all its glorious forms and manifestations.

It will tell the story of the remaining hippies of the 70s counter-culture; the homeless; the local characters and raconteurs; families new and old; business owners and tourists.

Anthony is seeking the support of local photographers, both professional and amateurs, as well as students to donate one or two pieces of work which they feel is intrinsically Byron Bay.

A competition will also run in conjunction with the launch of the book and will recognise the talent of the artists.

The winners will be announced at the launch which will be held at a Byron Bay gallery.

Anthony said he was seeking sponsorship for the prizemoney as well as gold, silver and bronze sponsorships from local businesses keen to support The Uncle Project, the book and young artists.
