Organisers of this year's Byron Run for Breast Cancer are hoping about 1000 people will take part in the event on Sunday, October 19.
The Cancer Council's Far North Coast community relations co-ordinator Carolyn Forbes said she hoped the run would attract at least five runners or walkers to represent each breast cancer patient on the Far North Coast.
"That's at least 1000 participants that we would like to see in the second Byron fun run," she said.
"The course is so unique. How wonderful to run or walk along Main Beach at Byron Bay and up to the fabulous lighthouse and back again, all for breast cancer."
The ambassador for the run will be the Minister for Ageing, Noelene Brown.
Ms Brown will attend on the day.
Ms Forbes said that more than 200 women on the Far North Coast would be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
She said that state-wide, the figure skyrocketed to 4091.
"By being physically active you can lower your own cancer risk," Ms Forbes said.
"We know that we can prevent about 25 per cent of all cancers by being physically active every day, enjoying a healthy diet and keeping to a healthy body weight."
Event organiser Lisa Parkes said the 10 kilometre course was the most scenic fun run in Australia.
"The route takes you to the lighthouse then back along the beach and people can run or walk," she said. "We have got some really generous sponsors and there are going to be some great prizes."
The run starts at 7am.
