It was artist Bubaloo Fahy's first time at the annual Byron District Orchid Society Show at the Ex-Services Club in Mullumbimby last week, where she and son Aquila were entranced by the array of glorious blooms.
"They're just such sensual plants," said Bubaloo, "and I wanted to share their beauty with Aquila."
Palmwoods grower Ben McClymont featured prominently in both the number of entries and prize-winning orchids.
According to the Orchid Society's Penny Fox, Ben reckons his secret lies in the pure Palmwoods spring water.
"People give him orchids in town that aren't doing too well," said Penny, "and he takes them home to Palmwoods and nurses them back to health."
And Mullumbimby barista Jay Penfold, who's also known for his love of plants, was reportedly "over the moon" to win a place on the champions table with his first-time entry of a dendrobium.
The exhibition is always different every year because, while growers nurture their beloved orchids with the same tender loving care every year, the climate is always the X-factor.
