Climate Torch Relay at Mullum

A leg of the GetUp Climate Torch Relay will be run through Mullumbimby on Saturday.

It will start at 11.15 am at Heritage Park and will follow a route along Dalley, Gordon and Burringbar Streets to Santos where the torch will be presented to the Byron Shire Mayor, Cr Jan Barham.

The Climate Torch, designed by the people who designed the Sydney Olympic Torch, features solar power, wind turbine, people power and a lemon battery, and symbolises the determination to avert dangerous climate change.

The six-week relay started last month and will finish at Canberra on September 21.

The Mullumbimby leg of the relay will feature residents, activists, Solar Neighbourhood Program participants and members of the Beyond Building Energy team.

It will go past places where solar panel installations have been completed and other houses in the process of getting installations.
