THEY are young, talented and philanthropic.

Tim Aitken, 13, and his younger brother Sam, 10, will hit the Bulcock St Markets this weekend to raise money for two-year-old Lucy Day who desperately needs surgery on her ear.

Lucy has a rare condition that has left her with just 30% hearing.

It can can only be repaired by having surgery in the United States.

Tim, a guitarist and singer, won the Caloundra Music Festival's busking competition last year.

Since then, Sam has taken on singing and percussion by his brother's side.

After regular stints at the Caloundra markets, the boys were asked to play at a fundraiser for Lucy, whose family is trying to raise about $60,000 for the operation.

Sam and Tim met Lucy that night and dedicated a rousing version of Coldplay's Fix You to her.

As their mother Lisa tells it, they then showed just how much of an impact Lucy had on them.

"They came up to my husband and me and said, 'Would it be okay to busk on Sunday and give all the money we raise to her operation?'" Mrs Aitken said.

"Obviously we said 'of course'."

So the Aitken boys are preparing to raise up to $1000 from a single Sunday session.

Their planned gig on March 18 had to be postponed due to the gloomy weather.

Mrs Aitken said that for a pair of working parents, it was wonderful to see the two boys so determined to help.

"They're going to do the best they can to raise the most amount of money they can," Mrs Aitken said.

"The market has confirmed that they will put them on the main roundabout near Henzells.

"After the juggle of parenting and working - both of us have businesses - you realise you must be doing something right."

Young Lucy and her mother are expected to try to catch some of the show on Sunday.
