Towering talent

TROMBONE Shorty followed up last year's Bluesfest show with another stunner this year, proving the highlight for some fans.

For others of the 80,000 who attended, the field was wide open.

It was as if John Fogerty was at his prime of life.

Jimmy Barnes and the Chisel crew delivered with the fervour of the born-again, Earth Wind and Fire set the standard for funk and Crosby Still and Nash had the hippies, old and young, singing their hearts out in the cause of peace and brotherhood.

There was something for everyone: "Jacket" for the art-rockers, Steve Earle and his be-suited son; Zappa fils, The Specials, Angelique, Betty, Lucinda, Harry - too many great moments to name. Peter Noble got it right when he said 2012 had the depth.

Then there was the weather: fine one day, perfect the next. Roll on 2013.
