IPSWICH'S new MP doesn't even know how to use Twitter, but that hasn't prevented him from being lampooned by an impostor on the online social network.

Tweets from a spoof account named @FakeIanBerry began to appear earlier this month which suggest our new LNP member enjoys regular naps and the odd gin and tonic.

The updates also describe Mr Berry's constituents as "serfs" and his wife as "Lady Berry".

The 70-odd messages have been accompanied by photo-shopped images of Mr Berry wearing an assortment of unusual headgear, including a lamington, top hat and gas mask.

Speaking to The Queensland Times yesterday, the real Mr Berry said he was not offended by the Tweets.

"I'm not worried," he said. "To be honest I don't even Twitter; I'm 60! I do like lamingtons, though."

Mr Berry said his fellow LNP parliamentarian David Gibson first told him about the account and that his daughter had also seen the Tweets.

"It came up in a casual conversation with David Gibson - he told me it's got a picture of me with a lamington on my head," Mr Berry said.

"Younger people like David and my daughter have said it's clearly fake, and I don't think anyone is going to believe a Tweet from someone with a lamington on their head.

"Twitter users are savvy and I trust them to figure it out.

"I've actually been very busy visiting Ipswich schools so it had slipped my mind a bit."

Mr Berry, who previously worked as a solicitor, said he wasn't worried about the risk of defamation.

"What can you do? I might be able to close one down but another one might pop up," he said.

"Maybe it means I'm a threat, but I have no idea who would've done it."

The satirical Tweeter isn't media shy, responding to a @qld_times Tweet about flu cases with a Tweet and image of Mr Berry in a decontamination suit.

"Ipswich must persevere through the flu season! I've taken sensible precautions," it read.

The creator of @FakeIanBerry would not disclose their identity to The Queensland Times, saying "Ipswich is a small place but you may see me this Friday when I host my first Lamington Masterclass at Jamie Oliver's Ippy Ministry of Food."

THIS IS YOUR FAKE MP TWEETING ...

HERE'S just a taste of what the fake Ian Berry has tweeted in recent weeks:

Still disgusted serfs attended #jobsrally. These teachers, firefighters, nurses & paramedics should get real jobs. More lawyers!

Watched #TheShire tonight to better understand the commoner. After several G&Ts I'm convinced that we need to entice season 2 to Ippy.

#jobsrally on Channel 9 soured my evening & forced me to seek comfort with 'George and Mildred'. Many ribald chuckles.

All serfs invited to my Lamington Masterclass @ Jamie Oliver's Ippy Ministry of Food. Possibly the only ministry I'll ever get into.

Had staff order hats to counter oddly high number of blank looks & 'What's an Ipswich?' I received at LNP Con.

Ducking out of #qqt for quick shave to ensure @TimNichollsMP doesn't confuse me with Andrew Fraser.

Spiffing effort @PaulPisasale to pursue discounted power rates. Today I pledge to seek cheaper Harris Tweed for Ippy.

Have instructed LNP youngsters in office to trim mullets by 15% in support of govt cost cutting. Some disgruntlement followed.

Put suggested @QueenslandRail cuts to cabinet. My solution: monorail. @Can_do_Campbell dumbstruck.

I gaze over the manor this frosty morning & wonder if there might be room to run some game pheasant after Campbell thins the public service.

zzz...zzzz....zzzzz... wot!...zzzzz...zzzz...zzz

Attending Origin 3 with the Premier & the Mayor. Dozed off last game and Paul P superglued my knees together. Smashing chap.
