WITH a mascara wand in one hand and a throttle in the other, beautician Roz Smith is about to embark on the journey of a lifetime.
The Zazi Mineral Cosmetics owner has joined the Mrs Australasia Posties Bike Pageant on a 1960km ride from Uluru to Darwin.
She will raise funds for two charities along the way and give local women makeovers at each of the nine towns she stops at.
The entire nine-day journey will be made on the back of a pint-sized postie bike with a maximum speed of about 60kmh.
"I was a judge in the Mrs Australasia competition, so when (winner) Bobbie Murphy asked me to support her in this fundraiser I decided I would join her instead," Mrs Smith said.
"I've never done anything like this - I've never even been to the Northern Territory."
The ride will raise money for Women in Need Australia and Project Dovetail, charities aimed at helping women and children at risk of abuse.
Mrs Smith was looking forward to giving makeovers to women in some of the remotest communities in Australia.
"Every woman loves to feel special, and just because you're in the Outback does not mean you don't enjoy being pampered," she said.
"I saw a real need for Outback women to not only get to feel special for the day, but also learn a thing or two in the process.
"One lucky lady will win all products used in creating her makeover, along with a lesson on application."
There are 20 people making the journey - nine on bikes and 11 support crew.
Mrs Smith will set off for the first leg of the ride today.
