Redbacks find Bulls too strong

PHIL Hughes fired with the bat again and Joe Mennie contributed with an enterprising rearguard action, but it was not enough as the Redbacks fell 191 runs short on the final day against Queensland at the Gabba yesterday.

With the South Australians resuming at 2-111 and needing another 352 runs for an unlikely victory, they were always going to find it tough going.

Callum Ferguson (44) and Hughes (83) added 38 to their team's overnight score before Ferguson was snapped up by Cameron Boyce at gully after wafting at a Ben Cutting delivery outside off stump.

That was the start of the end - the visitors lost the next seven wickets for 122, including Hughes just 10 runs after Ferguson's dismissal.

After an amazing ton in the first innings, Cutting continued his strong all-round effort with 3-51, and Luke Feldman took 4-50 from 18.4 overs.

Redbacks No.9 batsman Joe Mennie stood up to the Bulls quicks, blasting 79 from 74 balls.

But that only delayed an inevitable Queensland victory and a great start to its Sheffield Shield defence.
