A $10 BILLION coal port planned for south of Mackay in Central Queensland is now open for public consultation.

If approved, the Dudgeon Point Coal Terminal will include two separate coal-loading terminals able to move 180 million tonnes of coal for export each year.

It will create 1880 jobs over eight years during construction and 640 jobs once finished.

Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning Jeff Seeney said it was now time for the public to have its say.

"If approval is granted, Dudgeon Point will become one of the largest ports in the world," Mr Seeney said.

"It will open-up Mackay to an international coal export market, hauling in billions of dollars for Queensland's economy."

"When operating at full capacity, the terminals will more than double the existing scale of the adjacent Hay Point and Dalrymple Bay coal export facilities.

"An increase in coal export capacity will attract significant investment to the area, which means a shot in the arm for the local economy, and significant growth for the Queensland coal export industry.
