FIVE young local women are competing for the title of Miss Mullumbimby Showgirl 2012. There are also four entrants in Miss Junior showgirl and six entrants for the Junior Petites.

Organiser Janelle Stanford says the competition aims to find a young female ambassador for rural NSW.

Contestants are judged on personality, confidence, ambition and life goals, general knowledge, rural knowledge, presentation, speech and awareness of issues faced by women in rural NSW.

Juniors (8-12 years) and Junior Petites (5-7 years) also participate but are not judged.

The first round of judging was held at Dean and Janelle Stanford's home with a morning tea and interviews with the judges who asked entrants about agriculture around the district and general knowledge.

The second round which included public speaking was completed at the Show Ball at the Mullumbimby Bowling Club. The winner and runner-up will be announced at the Show on Saturday, November 10 at 1pm.

Previous winner Cecily Ryan urges anyone eligible to consider taking part in the future and described it as "the experience of a lifetime".

"You've got nothing to lose," Cecily said.

"My family was very proud, and so was I, although I never expected to win."

Entrants have a number of roles on show day as rural ambassadors, giving out prizes, riding in the Truck Parade and helping out the Princesses.
