THE Anglican Church in Federal was officially "deconsecrated" on Sunday by Father Phillip from Bangalow Anglican Church, meaning it no longer belongs to the diocese.

Settlement date is Friday, when the community will officially own it again.

The "handing over of the keys" will mark the end of a six-month fundraising campaign by the Federal community to buy back the church, after the Grafton Anglican diocese announced last year it planned to sell it.

The community managed to raise an incredible $220,000 through book sales, music concerts, garage sales and art auctions - enough to buy back the church and keep it as a community asset.
