THREE cars were stolen in Byron Bay on the weekend.

Tweed-Byron crime manager Acting Inspector Saul Wiseman said it was important car owners kept their vehicles secure when left unattended, this included taking the keys with you.

He further said police were kept very busy, once again, with a lot of drunken behaviour in Byron Bay.

This includes:

- A 28-year-old Ballina man was charged with affray (street fighting) and assault occasioning actual bodily harm after an incident that occurred at Jonson St at 1am on Sunday. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on March 21. Acting Insp Wiseman said police will allege about 1am on March 10 that the man punched another man in the head after asking for a cigarette lighter.

- Police are investigating an allegation of assault that occurred inside the Beach Hotel at Byron Bay about 10pm on Sunday night. A 21-year-old Ocean Shores woman is alleged to have been assaulted by an 18-year-old Broken Head man.

- Police are investigating an assault on two male tourists from the United Kingdom after a male described as being in his early 20s, blonde shoulder length hair, wearing a black t-short and jeans walked up and punched them both in the head. There is no CCTV available to assist. The incident occurred about 11.50pm on Friday night at Jonson St.

- A 25-year-old French national was issued with a $550 fine for failing to quit at the Beach Hotel Byron Bay about midnight on March 11. The man was asked to leave by security and a violent altercation erupted. Police attended and arrested the man who was later released.

- A 22-year-old Lennox Head man became involved in a violent altercation with security from Cocoamangus in Byron Bay about 2am on Sunday morning. The man was asked to leave for being too intoxicated. Police intervened after seeing security officers arresting the man on the roadway. Investigations are continuing.

- A 43-year-old Lismore woman was arrested and charged with a range of offences including, offensive language, offensive behaviour, fail to comply with direction, assault police, resist police and intimidate police. She was granted conditional bail to appear at Byron Bay Local Court on March 21. Police will allege the woman, who was affected by alcohol, came to the Byron Bay police station and started yelling abuse at police and members of the public. She continued to threatened police and their families before being arrested in a violent confrontation.
