IT'S not quite a palace, but with a new refurbishment and state-of-the-art digital projectors, the new Palace Cinema in Byron Bay is certainly turning heads.

With a sophisticated bold new interior colour, a new licensed bar and "excellent" coffee, the new cinema has been receiving praise since it opened last week.

Acting assistant manager Sophie Kobic said the opening of the new cinema was exciting.

"We've had a good response from the public," she said.

"The cinema complex has been totally transformed with a new projection system in all three cinemas which has improved dramatically the quality of the film and the sound is also improved.

"We've also got a fantastic program of films that will really suit the Byron community."

While the price of an adult ticket at $18 is seen by many as expensive, Sophie has urged people to join the Palace Cinema Club.

She said the club represented amazing value.

"It only costs $19 to join for the year and you get a free movie ticket posted to you, so really, that has only cost you $1," Sophie said.

"Then when you come to the movies, you pay just $12 and you can bring a friend for $12 too.

"Palace will also post you out a free ticket on your birthday."

The club also has a movie guarantee.
