The Block's kitchen week delivers two perfect scores

THE Block's apartments are officially finished internally with the conclusion of the reno show's kitchen week.

The five teams delivered some of the biggest spaces in the show's history, including massive 3m plus stone bench tops and butler's pantries that could serve as their own fully functioning kitchens.

Will and Karlie and Dan and Carleen tied for first place with perfect scores of 30.

The judges praised the young Queensland lovebirds for their clever layout and brave colour choice.

"Visually it's absolutely stunning," Neale Whitaker said.

"It's sleek, glamorous and black; black has become the new white (in kitchens)."

Shaynna Blaze agreed: "This one of the most divine kitchen's I've seen. They've pushed the envelope in colour and layout."

Baby boomers Dan and Carleen an equally perfectly resolved space with timber cabinetry and an art deco-inspired feature light over their 3.6m-long stone bench top.

"It's beautifully understated in here, which is what makes it feel sophisticated," Whitaker said.

"It's their best room yet. I was kind of worried about where Dan and Carleen might go in kitchen week, that they might try to be too clever or decorative, but this is very well done."

Andy and Ben used their bonus point but to no avail, finishing third with their bold tri-coloured kitchen.

"Wow that's so different," Blaze said about their cabinetry.

"We've got charcoal, this putty sort of colour and this beautiful green.

"They've taken the fun aspect from day one. They've got more sophisticated but they've never lost that energy."

Julia and Sasha finished fourth with their largely white kitchen with gold accents and Gaggenau appliances from their challenge win.

"Julia and Sasha have really walked that line of a really simple palette and then all the little luxury touch points that you really want," Darren Palmer said.

But the women lost points for the size of their bench top, in comparison to the other teams, and the dangerous height of their steamer.

Kim and Chris finished last after a week of dramas and last-minute fixes that resulted in a mish mash of materials.

"This stone is luxury and that (wood breakfast bar) is luxury," Blaze said.

"When you have two heroes in the same place they can have the effect of cancelling each other out."

Whitaker agreed, saying something about the space felt off to him.

"You can sell anything in a brochure, but when you're standing in the space if you're not feeling it that's where the heart money doesn't come in," Blaze said.

"I can't see two buyers fighting over this kitchen."

This upcoming week the teams will renovate their outdoor terraces.
