Surf club rides wave of success

BYRON BAY Surf Life Saving Club has cleaned up at the annual Surf Life Saving NSW Awards of Excellence held last weekend.

Joshua Brown was named Country Athlete of the Year.

Joshua's love of surf sports and his commitment to training have seen him achieve outstanding results as a country competitor, winning four medals at the 2012 Aussie Champs, three of those in individual events.

In the Under 15s, Byron Bay took out the Team of the Year award.

This team has an impressive record competing at local, state and national events.

Collectively the group performed an impressive 538 patrol hours at their club and at neighbouring clubs when required.

Age manager Darron said he had a great bunch of kids and some of them had been together since Nippers.

Coach of the Year was awarded to Glen Lawrence.

Glen is a Level 3 coach and has been head coach at Byron Bay SLSC for the past 25 years.

He has been instrumental in a stellar season for the club with success at branch, state and national level.
