Ash's longtime friends tune in

THE beauty of Byron Bay isn't lost on Ash Grunwald.

The roots musician, who lives in the Byron Shire, recently recruited a list of the who's who in music and surfing from the shire for his clip, Longtime, from his new album Trouble's Door.

Pete Murray, Xavier Rudd, Kram (Spiderbait), Scotty Owen (The Living End), Bob McTavish, Fingers Malone, Derek Hynde, Beau Young and Dave Rastovich enjoy a few good breaks alongside Grunwald in the clip.

"I live in one of the most beautiful places in Australia," Grunwald told The Northern Star yesterday.

"If you were in another state you might think 'I want to do a Byrony clip' - we live in a holiday destination."

"And, I thought people would like to see these pretty high-profile guys miming to my song. Particularly Xavier who has such a different voice to me; I thought it would be funny."

The clip was filmed in two days at The Pass and at Broken Head, with the miming taking the longest.

"Xavier doesn't like miming in his own clips so I had to convince him it was going to be funny, not cheesy," he said.

While it might be unusual for a clip to feature so many prominent people, Grunwald said it's almost a daily occurrence for him and his mates.

"Beau Young and Xavier, I surf with them on a daily basis. Kram lives just around the corner and Scott Owen from The Living End - his wife and my wife are in a band together; Mr Cassidy."

The Fingers Malone Ensemble is supporting Grunwald on his tour, along with Mr Cassidy.
